Less Than a Week Until My Talk at TEDxMississauga!
A little over three years ago, I shared about living with my rare neuromuscular disorder publicly for the first time ever (through Speaker Slam), and by the end of this week, I'll be sharing the journey of what I've learned on one of the most recognizable speaking platforms - a TEDx stage. ๐ฅน
Yesterday, I did a practice talk for a couple of friends, and they brought up just HOW FAST things have gone since I started - winning awards for speaking and disability advocacy, raising awareness for invisible disabilities in over 30 media interviews and podcasts, sharing my journey and the Daily Yay with literally thousands of students, corporate/government employees and entrepreneurs...!
I've heard before that we often underestimate what we can accomplish in three years. I can definitely say that three-years-ago Lauren, who was still getting used to talking about her disability and realizing that everyone has something about themselves or their lives that they're nervous to talk about, never saw ANY of that coming. ๐
All my prep and practice (82 times so far!) has been making me realize I should appreciate this part. I found out in October that I was accepted to TEDxMississauga, so it's felt like a big build-up for a long time. But in just three days I'll finally be able to say...
"Thank you for coming to my TED talk" (for real!) ๐๐ฅฐ๐๐ฝ
